Internship Highlights: Will Bravenec at WSP Engineering

Internship Highlights: Will Bravenec at WSP Engineering

This post is part of our “Intern of the Week” highlight series written by Kelsie Luong, Class of 2028. For this spotlight, we spoke with Will Bravenec (Class of 2026), who is interning with the WSP Engineering.

What is your internship and what do you usually do there?

  • My internship is at WSP, a global civil engineering firm. I work with bus rapid transit (BRT) as well as other types of public transit projects.

What was the most interesting thing you did at your internship?

  • It’s hard to choose but the most interesting thing I did was help develop standards for a new bus rapid transit project in the Seattle area. I got to learn a lot about how roads are built and a lot of elements that most people don’t generally see.

What’s the most valuable thing you learned at your internship?

  • I’ll go with the valuable learning question. I got to learn a lot about the requirements for designing roads, and right now I’m learning the software engineers use for the projects.

What is your internship project?

  • I’m currently working with marketing materials and categorizing them based off different elements we designed, as well as technologies to learn industry best practice. I’m also working in AutoCAD on another project to learn how to use it. I chose this work this semester so I could learn the day-to-day skills for after I graduate from college.

What is your career goal, and how has this and all of your internships influenced your career visions over the years?

  • My career goal is to learn the day-to-day skills required for a civil engineer. I got to this by starting to work with general transportation at a previous internship, liking it, then I learned more and decided to go in depth into civil engineering, where I am now at WSP.
