Internship Spotlight: Cindy Fu at Lake Hills Soccer Club

Internship Spotlight: Cindy Fu at Lake Hills Soccer Club

Written by Jackson Robinson, Class of 2018

Intern Cindy Fu and her internship mentor.

Cindy Fu is a sophomore who has spent this year interning with the Lake Hills Soccer Club. Cindy is no Cristiano Renaldo, but she fills another much-needed role for the organization, web design. Despite being in the Lake Hills Soccer Club, Cindy and her mentor Mike work out of a workspace in Seattle called Galvanize. Cindy typically arrives at her internship around 10am and she starts the day by meeting with Mike to decide what she will work on that day. Usually, she adds and edits additional content for the website, or makes and fixes pages on the site. Cindy’s mentor Mike said that “she puts a lot more time into this than the required [amount]” and that “she’s been extraordinarily productive” indicating the kind of dedication Cindy puts into her work.

Cindy wants to eventually get into graphic design and web design and is using her internship to learn as much as she can to have more experience later in her career. She also said, “it’s great to have this experience no matter where I go because everyone wants a website right now and that will benefit in any field”. There are many skills that don’t apply in different careers, but Cindy believes that everything she’s learning could transfer into other fields. While Cindy learned a lot at her internship, she also truly helped her mentor and internship site. Mike commented on how Cindy has been as an intern, “We’ve gone from a website that was substandard, out-of-date in terms of hardware and software to now having one of the better club sports sites on the eastside.” Cindy has proven herself as a strong worker and web design asset for the Lake Hills Soccer Club and we can’t wait to see what she does next.
