Additional Considerations for BP Students

Things to Consider Regarding Bellevue College (BC) Running Start

While enrolled at Big Picture School (BPS):

  • Students must attend the daily 3rd Period LTI advisory class at BPS.
  • Students must attend a 7-hour, uninterrupted, internship on Thursdays.
  • BPS is on a semester schedule from Sept-June. Bellevue College is on a quarter schedule. The finals, breaks, holidays, and schedules of each school do not line up. BC fall quarter starts in late September so the student may have some ‘free time’ during these weeks. Big Picture will not assume supervision during this time.

  • Registration for BC classes occurs during the prior quarter. To register for BC classes, Running Start students must meet with their BPS school counselor and have an Enrollment Verification Form signed by the BPS school counselor. Failure to have the form signed on time and/or missing registration deadlines may prohibit the student from registering for BC classes. Failure to enroll in courses needed for graduation may delay on-time graduation.
  • It is the student’s sole responsibility to manage their registration for classes, schedule, finals, and the logistics of these items.
  • BPS master schedule is determined the prior spring to the school year independent of BC’s schedule. Students select BPS classes in the spring of the year prior and may not drop the BPS classes due to conflicting BC classes. Unfortunately, conflicts may occur, and students may not be able to take the BC class they intended on taking.
  • Due to the small number of classes offered at BPS, it is very likely that a student will have a gap or gaps between their classes each day if they are taking some classes at BC. Students with this predicament will be expected to self-manage without supervision. Students are welcome to work in the library during these times.
  • Students who take classes at BC earn credit and grades on a college transcript. The credit and grades are also placed on the high school transcript.
  • One 5-credit class at BC is the equivalent to one year-long 1.0 BSD credit class.
  • Running Start students are considered adult college students. BPS staff and counselors are not informed of student progress and/or attendance at Bellevue College.
  • Bellevue College expects Running Start students to maintain a 2.0 GPA or will be placed on academic probation.
  • A student may take a combination of classes at BPS and BC. The number of credits that a student can take for Running Start is determined by how many classes they take at BPS.
  • Students must enroll in classes to meet graduation requirements. The BSD Running Start Equivalency Sheet can guide students in the specific classes they need to take to meet graduation requirements.
